State commerce and Industries department blames successive government influences to the failure of Loitang Khunou Spinning Mill


Government begins process for compensating 30 percent subsidies to Hotel Classic

The Public Account Committee of the Manipur legislative assembly headed by Opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam continues to grind state government department as well as state Public Sector Undertaking companies and statutory corporation to find out the facts of massive irregularities and misappropriation of funds as reported in the Comptroller Auditor General report. 

An official source said that the PAC today summoned the commissioner of the Commerce and Industries department, O Nabakishore to give explanations regarding the report. The source said Commissioner O Nabakishore blamed successive government influences to the functioning of the Manipur Spinning mills cooperation limited located at Loitang Khunou which was once a major success of the public sector undertaking corporation. 
The PAC headed by the Opposition MLA RB Koijam which consist of senior opposition MLA Okram Joy, I Ibohanbi and Ng Bijoy today urged the commissioner for proper explanation of the Manipur Spinning mills cooperation limited at Loitang Khunou. Replying to the question of the PAC members, Commissioner Nabakishore reportedly said that the appointment of surplus staffs to the corporation was the major reason for failure of the mill. He said the spinning mill has started commissioning with major success at the beginning. However, the mill started facing financial crisis as each successive government had appointed staffs which are not required in the corporation under their discretionary power. ISTV news failed to get details of the employees’ appointment list in the corporation as it was concealed as top confidential report. Nabakishore further said that number two result for failure of the mill was also due to the inadequate supply of raw material by suppliers of the mill. He however, declined to blame the suppliers as there were major problem along the two national high ways of the state which connect the state with the rest of the country.


On the other hand state government had begun processing for payment of 30% compensation for building of the 3-star standard hotel –Hotel Classic in Imphal. A source close to ISTV News said the commerce and industries commissioner O Nabikishore said this while answering to queries made by the PAC member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today. The source said as a policy programme for encouragement of tourism and resort Industries in the nation, Union government have been utilizing fund for grant for constructing of tourist hotel which is at the status of 2-star standard. However, the newly constructed hotel Classic in Imphal has been approved as a three star hotel. Revealing the government stands to vindicate the nations’ policy and programme O Nabikishore said process for compensating 30 percent subsidy to the hotel had already been began. However, as there are certain rules for such a payment it could not be flow in a speedy way.

  1. corrigendum : O. Nabakishore is the Principal secretary of the Commerce and Industries department and not commissioner. The mistake committed in the news story is regretted.
