Preparation for 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly underway

CEO Manipur Opens Facebook account to create awareness among the young voters

Hectic preparations are being underway in the Chief Electoral Officer office of the state government for successful conduct of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, which is likely to be scheduled during the month of February next year. Speaking to media persons CEO PC Lamkunga said preparation of voter identity cards has now reached 93% percent which was only 91% last time. He further assured that by December, before the commencement of the state general election the department is hoping to complete providing 96% to 98% of the voter identity card. Lamkunga further said that maps for all polling stations in the state have been prepared with the help of the Remote Sensing Application Center. He said all location of the 2195 polling station in the state of Manipur had been identified using the global positioning system.

CEO Manipur PC lamkunga further added that most preparation for free and fair conduct of the upcoming 10th legislative assembly had been completed. He said the state election office has been intimated to organize a training for master trainer on 19th and 20th of July this year by the office of the Chief Election commission of India. He said the master trainers will be provided training regarding the maintenance and management of the EVM, preparation of Photo identity cards and any other related works related with the general election.

The CEO team is utilizing all sort of available modern technologies to conduct the upcoming general election - a Free and Fair one. As an innovative effort of the CEO Manipur, an official user account entitled CEO Manipur was today officially launched by the CEO P.C Lamkunga. According to Assistant Chief Electoral Officer K. Bono Singh, the user account will be used as an interactive forum with young voters, youths and active users for educating them on electoral process. He said the forum will also enable the users to learn about the materials on enrolment in Photo Electoral rolls and their revision. Besides, the official group will also provide information regarding the Electors’ Photo Identity cards programme, use of Electronic voting machines and importance of participating in election.
It may be mentioned that facebook is one of the most popular social networking site across the globe. The webmaster claimed to have crossed over 5 billion members in the site. The social network site has also been becoming as one of the most popular social networking site among the youth of Manipur. Various issues were discussed through the networking site. It is also worth mentioning that the campaign for removal of the protected area permit system from the state has also been initiated in Facebook. Now, a groups of energetic youth had also formed a group called cycle club in facebook. The members now met every weekend and have done various activisms to save fuel energy.
